Little Mix star Jesy Nelson has called Geri Halliwell the Spice Girl she most relates to.
The ‘Wings’ singer revealed that the occasional Ginger Spice was the member of the all-conquering girlband that she most wanted to be when she was younger.
Nelson was speaking to Popjustice about the Spice Girls’ stint at the Olympics Closing Ceremony when she was asked which member she most felt an affinity with. “Probably Geri Halliwell,” she answered.
Asked if it was based on hair, Jesy continued: “Maybe. And just ’cause she says what she thinks, and I’m a bit like that as well. Like, I always tell the truth.
“I love Geri Halliwell – I wanted to be her when I was little.”
Reminded that the ‘Look At Me’ singer was “probably the most mental Spice Girl”, Jesy quipped: “Yeah, and I’m a little bit mental.”
The star also recalled one of her top highlights of the year – when ‘Wings’ went to No1 on the UK singles chart.
“It’s just literally been amazing,” she said. “Like, for us to have written our own single and for it go to Number One, it just felt absolutely amazing.
“Obviously we’d had ‘Cannonball’, and that was our first single, but it was the Winner’s Single, it wasn’t actually our music. It was just so nice to know that people appreciated our music and actually really liked it.”
The band’s debut album DNA also charted in the Top 3.
