Little Mix have revealed that they want to take girl power back to America.
The girl group confirmed plans to travel to the US in 2013 and hope to become the female equivalent of One Direction, following their success in 2012.
“I think One Direction really opened the gate. With them [and] artists like Adele coming through America it’s been such a British year,” Jade Thirlwall told MTV.
“With the Olympics and the whole royal family thing and all that stuff I think everyone’s just jumping on board Britain at the moment. It’s nice to see and hopefully they’ll still be waiting for us come next year.”
Jesy Nelson added: “Obviously the boys have been dominating this year and it’s about time we get girl power in there. So that’s our aim for next year.”
The girl group also spoke of the effect the relationship between Perrie Edwards and One Direction star Zayn Malik has had on their fanbase.
“I think when we were on X Factor anyway, a lot of our fans were One Direction fans before Perrie and Zayn even got together,” Thirlwall explained. “So we already had a lot of support from the 1D fans.
“I think when Perrie and Zayn did get together everyone was supportive of it and really kind of happy that two of their favourite bands were kind of getting together.”
Little Mix recently confirmed that their next UK single will be ‘Change Your Life’, which was co-written by Spice Girls songwriter Richard Stannard.
